November 2013: Kite Bag Founders visit!

Pete & Laurel

Pete & Laurel

Laurel Eastman & Pete Richardson graced us with a visit to the shop & brought us some more awesome kite bags.

My sister & I serendipitously discovered Laurel’s kiteboarding school in the Dominican Republic last year & were thrilled to be able to bring some of her colorful & clever Kite Bags home to sell in the shop.  We were even more excited to learn of her non-profit mission supported by sales of the Kite Bags.

Kiters4Communities was created by Laurel & Pete as a way of bringing work to an impoverished Haitian community (just outside of Cabarete in the Dominican Republic) while also saving kite material otherwise bound for the landfill.  Laurel is a pioneer of kiteboarding, one of the first female world-class competitors!  Pete, who serves as Executive Director, opted to develop Kiters For Communities as an alternative to joining the Peace Corps.  Their dedication  to the project is truly inspiring.

The Kiters4Communities project continues to strive to bring more employment opportunities, education & improved quality of life to the Haitian communities they work with.  You can help support their mission by buying a kite bag from the shop or visiting their website to learn more & make a donation:  http://kiters4communities.org/
